Description
  • The Olympic Village for the 1996 Olympic Games was created through a combination of existing buildings and new dormitories located in the existing Georgia State University campus.
  • The university didn’t have student dormitories prior to the Games. The construction of new buildings helped boost the college’s reputation and intake of students from other regions after the Games.
  • The new apartment buildings followed the local architectural style of the existing buildings on campus.
  • The construction of these apartments also aligned with larger development plan of the city of Atlanta, to solve shortage of housing
  • During the Games the common areas were decorated with temporary tensile walkways, pop-up shops and amenities.
  • The Georgia Tech Plaza was created as a central meeting space and featured a fountain and amphitheater.
  • Info’96 terminals were small centers dispersed throughout the site, which provided athletes with internet services. The internet was a newly developed concept at the time.
