Description

    Sustainable Building Design

  • The neighborhood is built with self-sufficient earth houses based on the principles of the “earthship” concept by Michael Reynolds.
  • The houses are constructed using locally available residual materials, such as tires, and other natural materials.
  • The homes have green roofs and are fitted with solar panels that connect to a grid, producing enough energy for energy-neutral living.
  •

    Energy and Water Self-Sufficiency

  • The development is designed to be self-sufficient in terms of energy, water supply, and purification.
  • Grey water from the homes is filtered using a helophyte filter, turning it into clean surface water for the district.
  • Most residents use compost toilets, which help reduce water usage.
  •

    Ecological Features

  • The earth houses are oriented towards the South with a glass facade to capture natural heating, while the North side features tires filled with rammed earth, providing thermal mass and insulation.
  • These design choices make the energy performance coefficient almost zero.
  • The development includes nature trails with plantings and semi-paved surfaces, promoting interaction with the natural environment.
  •

    Community and Governance

  • The neighborhood operates as a sociocracy, with residents divided into groups responsible for maintaining different areas.
  • The development is self-built by residents and volunteers, under supervision from construction coordinators.
