Description
  • It is residential development that was originally built to house athletes attending the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.
  • The site was chosen as it was an unused plot that had large amounts of vegetation and was not polluted by any industrial activity.
  • Prefabricated construction was used for the buildings, allowing for reduced construction time. It was commonly used in Moscow for residential buildings.
  • The high-rise residential blocks were arranged around large green parks. Two of the blocks were reserved for women participants.
  • Each block was vertically zoned such that the first and top floor was reserved for offices and services, with residences located in the floors between.
  • The Samorodinka river crosses the site edge at one end. This part of the site was designed as a green park with cascading ponds. Elements like bridges and boating stations were added to make it a leisurely area for participants.
