Description

-It is a historic small-scale light manufacturing district in Hackney. Land Use -The area consists of makers distributed across residential and commercial areas. The older pockets of manufacturing spaces are now evolving into mixed-use spaces with living, working and producing areas in one space. -There are many local maker spaces that enable collaboration and networking. -Unlike many industrial areas, it used to be a residential area. It slowly became a industrial area with larger blocks and warehouses over time. -Today the abandoned large industrial buildings have been made into art galleries with production and show spaces. Container units have been repurposed as commercial units for designers. -Efforts are being made to preserve the basic industrial land uses for the makers despite rising costs. -There are several high-rise buildings with small workshop spaces for manufacturing firms. They act as incubator buildings.
