The Wave is the first master-planned community in Oman. It has 230 hectares and extends over six kilometers of unspoiled beach. The master plan design provides Omanis and expats with the most up-to-date concept in community-focused living, radiating from a community center woven with waterways and offering residents access to the commercial, retail, restaurant, and recreational opportunities all within walking distance of their homes.
The Wave was a pioneering project of its sort on the Arabian Peninsula to introduce the idea of placemaking and clustered living. The intricate water drainage problems that have plagued the site throughout numerous prior attempts at successful master plans were addressed creatively by OBMI's master plan, which also redefined community living in Oman.
The master planning solution made use of a network of internal canals with built-in lakes, dams, and flood control measures to provide watershed drainage from the airport's surrounding lowlands. With the use of land reclamation, this creative approach made room for the incorporation of 30 extra hectares. Also, it made it possible to build on residential areas that had previously been deemed unfit.
A current aerial photograph of the site actually resembles the original site plan created by OBMI during the design phase. The Wave master plan was a pioneer in the area in introducing the idea of townhomes and community-focused living.
